Day 39: Write about a holiday that you went on that was really important to you. Say where you went and what you saw, and explain why it was the best holiday you ever had.

If someone asks me about the best holiday ever in my life, my answer will be Tet holiday 2020.

Tet holiday or Vietnamese Lunar New Year is the most significant festival in Vietnam. I love it so much because this is the only occasion for all family members to have happy moments together after a year of hard-working. Before Tet, we have to prepare many things like decorating house, cooking some special foods such as sticky rice cake or sugar-coated fruit, etc. I love the moment when my mom cooks sticky rice cake. We keep watch on the fire overnight and tell each other stories about Tet of past years. During Tet, my family visits our relatives and temples, forgetting the troubles of the past year and hoping for a better upcoming year. There are a lot of customs practiced during Tet such as visiting a person’s house on the first day of the new year, ancestral worship, wishing New Year’s greetings and giving lucky money to children, etc. A traditional Tet often lasts for a month but these years, it is shorter because of the busy life.

In 2020, we all have a super specific Tet holiday due to the coronavirus. After Tet holiday, we had the time in quarantine so that I have had to stay at home and “enjoy” Tet holiday till now. To me, this is such a wonderful time that I can spend my time with my family more. I have the opportunity to enjoy the fresh atmosphere in my hometown and try many new things. For example, I started to learn a new languages, I joined 30-day writing challenge, etc. Those activities was so meaningful to me.

Though my Tet holiday was not really fun as the years before, I had many more memorable things in my life. I believe that I can never forget this Tet holiday with quarantine time.
