Day 46: You get this request from a teacher at your local college.Students in the college often ask me for advice about buying a home computer. They ask questions like:
– Should I get a big desktop computer or a small laptop?
– What programs should I get?
– Is security a problem?
I would like to give them some written information. Could you write a leaflet for students who know very little about computers? The leaflet should give advice about the most important things someone needs to think about before buying a computer. Thank you!

STUDENTS SHOULD BUY A BIG DESK COMPUTER OR A SMALL LAPTOP?
In most cases, a laptop will be the best answer. The reason is that a small laptop is much more convenient for students to bring it belong when going to school. Besides, it has enough features applying in their studying. However, students can choose to buy both if they can. A big desk computer for studying at home and a laptop serving for studying at school.

PROGRAM THAT STUDENTS SHOULD GET
Students today can have access to variety programs in their laptop. However, they should know which ones are useful for their education, and which ones are a waste of time. Choosing the right kind of applications can help them gain knowledge, and increase the learning process. Students on general courses might need some programs like Microsoft Office for doing assignment; One Note for taking notes; Microsoft Team for doing teamwork and managing tasks effectively; etc. Some students learning design may need programs of Adobe, for instance: Illustration, Photoshop, Premiere, etc. IT Sutdents might need a laptop with C++ or some kind of application for coding with a high configuration.

SECURITY PROBLEMS
Both a laptop and a desktop all has its own some security problems. For example, a laptop can easily be stolen by anybody during one of your unguarded moments or you might lose data due to a power outage if you use a desktop. Therefore, students have to remember to secure their laptop by keeping it in a place that can be locked. One more thing is that they should use a password to protect their device against unauthorized use.
